The long-awaited Razer Nabu smartband, which was first revealed at CES back in January, finally has a pre-orders date – tomorrow, December 2. Razer announced today that the Nabu will be available first in North America on RazerStore, with selected retailers to be announced later.
But there’s a catch. Two of them, in fact. A Razer representative confirmed to Tech in Asia that only 5,000 units are available in the first batch, and they can be snapped up only by “Razer Insiders.” The price for Insiders is just US$79.99, but the regular price will be US$99.99.
There’s no date yet for any other country or for truly public sales in the US.
The Nabu – which does phone alerts and fitness tracking – will be available in two sizes and in four colors (green, white, orange, and black), but only black is available at first.
Razer is best known for gaming hardware. The Nabu is the first foray into smart gadgets for the Singapore-US company. Min-Liang Tan, the co-founder and CEO of Razer, said in today’s announcement:
The Razer Nabu has undergone extensive consumer and developer testing, all of which is providing feedback toward the final retail-ready device. This has ensured that with all the features polished — discreet notifications, fitness tracking, social capabilities, and more — the Razer Nabu is a device that has something cool in-store for everyone.
