Hands On with Lenovo’s first 64-bit smartphone, the Lenovo VIBE Z2

Lenovo this week unveiled its latest flagship offering in the shape of the Lenovo VIBE Z2, a more affordable alternative to the Lenovo VIBE Z (check the VIBE Z review here). Lenovo claims the VIBE Z2 as the first 64-bit smartphone from the company, using what seems to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 system-on-chip. Available in China from September with selected global availability from October, the Z2 will retail for an expected $439 USD.

The Lenovo VIBE Z2 is the latest addition to the company’s flagship VIBE Series, and like its more expensive sibling the VIBE Z and recently launched VIBE Z2 Pro. The Z2 has a 5.5 inch IPS display only this time your getting a 720p HD display resolution compared to the 1080p display on the Z. The other major change is the processor which appears to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410- a more affordable variant of the high-end 800 and 801 Snapdragon processors that we see in today’s top tier offerings. The Snapdragon 401 however has the advantage of being 64-bit compatible, allowing the device to take advantage of future Google Android OS versions.

Our man Roland managed to get hold of the new Lenovo VIBE Z2 to give us all a closer look at the new mid-range offering from one of China’s most ambitious companys:
The brushed aluminum design of the VIBE Z has been continued with the Z2, which sports a uni-body aluminum design that is also pretty slim at just 7.8mm. In terms of cameras, the VIBE Z2 uses a 13MP Sony Exmor BSI sensor which brings OIS, while on the front the device uses a decent quality 8MP camera. In terms of memory, you are getting a 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The device integrates a non-removable 3,000mAh battery.
