Onkyo announces three new audio products – Bluetooth speaker, headphones and earphones

…but sadly still no further word on the Iron Maiden headphones.

What we have learned about, however, are the X9 HRA Bluetooth speaker, the H500M headphones and the E700M earphones.
These are all produced around the Onkyo HF Player app, which is their dedicated system for getting the best out of 192kHz / 24-bit audio.

The X9 is – according to Onkyo – “the world’s first high-resolution Bluetooth speaker. The aluminium unit has four mid-bass drivers, two tweeters and two passive radiators. Sounds like it means business. On top of that it offers 10 hours playback and will cost $400 on release.

Also on the way is the H500M headphones, which come in black or white and feature an in-line mic and control. Their frequency range is 7Hz – 40kHz and they’ll launch at $200.

Last up we have the E700M earphones, which use the same “High Resolution Audio-capable” cable as the H500Ms and will launch at $115.

Release date TBA but they’ll be on display at the Berlin IFA.

Logitech wants to bring audiophile quality audio to gaming with two new headphones models

With the Logitech G G633 and G933 Artemis Spectrum headphones, Logitech wants to bring best quality audio to gaming.

The headphones use the company’s Pro-G audio drivers to deliver 7.1 Dolby surround sound.
The G633 is a wired model, while the G933 offers a wireless connection and the option of an additional sound source.

They work with the Logitech Gaming Software, which allows customised key assignment to three ‘G-keys’ on the headphones and the software also allows for levels and EQ adjustment, as well as the ability to change the LED light colour.

They will be out in October and will cost $150 (G633) and $200 (G933).

No doubt they’ll be good sounding but at that price, maybe there’s a little way to go before true audiophile quality is offered to gamers.

DOOGEE F5: A DEVICE THAT GOES AGAINST THE TREND

Since the birth of iphone 6/6 plus, curved edge design has been a fashion and followed by almost every manufacturer. However, DOOGEE F5 gonna say NO.

Curved body is not the only choice for smartphones. Designs should be diversified. Smartphones should have distinct personality, so do we. Why not be just you?

DOOGEE F5 is an example of being genuinely yourself, ‘cause everyone else is already taken.

Sony: No More Baloney

Sony: No More Baloney

I have bashed Sony again and again for its stupid moves in the eBook and TV markets.
So it’s only fair that I praise them again and again for the recent moves they’ve been making with phones.
The T2 Ultra — which is hardly on sale anywhere any more — is going to be getting Android 5.1!
Whoever it is at Sony who is making these moves deserves a raise. He’s instilling customer confidence in their phone division. It seems the days of abandoning customers — at least with phones — are over.
Now, if only the upcoming Z5 Ultra was a six-inch screen instead of just 5.5-inches! Well, at least bring the C5 Ultra to the U.S.!

Rockchip “Light Work OS” — Android 5.1 + Remix OS?

Rockchip “Light Work OS” — Android 5.1 + Remix OS?

This is one the screwiest things I’ve seen come out of China…
Rockchip, to try to fend off the Wintel tablet assault, looks to have remixed the Remix OS and are calling it the “Light Work OS” [Google Translate].
The first tablet to have this is, strangely, the Pipo P9.
RockchipLightWorkOSIMP3Net001
RockchipLightWorkOSIMP3Net002
RockchipLightWorkOSIMP3Net003
Maybe there’s some hope for owners of the iFive Mini 4 after all? Maybe Rockchip will push this out and Five Technology will offer it as an optional download instead of dicking around with adapting Android 5.x with their miserable iFive Skin? If Five was to do that, it might provide an opening to flashing a custom ROM to the Insignia Flex Elite 7.85.
This entire situation is really ridiculous. If the “problem” with Android tablet sales was the lack of windowing, tablets from Five and Pipo would have sold like crazy with Rockchip’s MultiWindow Android 2.0. They didn’t. And Rockchip’s MultiWindow Android 2.0 was as good as Samsung’s MultiView.

Speed Test: Dual-Core 1GB RAM iPhone 6 Beats Vs. Octa Core 4GB RAM Galaxy Note 5 [Video]

The majority of standard smartphone users will interact with various applications on a daily basis. The logical one to see what exactly and how perfectly each device perform inoking and closing apps. In terms of hardware capabilities on paper the Note 5 with 4GB RAM and octa-core processor exterminate the iPhone 6 with 1GB of RAM and dual-core processor. With that said, the video clearly shows that Apple’s finely tuned smartphone can hold its own by keeping up with the pace set by Samsung’s Note phablet when opening and loading common applications, and then later even surpassing to beat it.
iPhone-6-vs-Galaxy-Note-5
Smartphone and hardware fans almost test out the real-world performance of any new device by piiting it aginst the competition. A launch of any new device of note ultimately spwans of “speed test” videos that measures devices versus whilst performing common tasks such as multitasking, launching processor intensive apps, and navigating through complex menu structures. YouTube user DroidModderX Root Master has followed this trend by demonstrating how the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 performs against the Apple iPhone 6.
Speed test for opening up various applications on Galaxy Note 5 and iPhone 6 done. The interesting part of the test is the difference in performance when it came to actually loading a previously launched apps for the second time. In this case, the apps that had already been opened once on the iPhone 6 popped up instantly, and the apps on the Note 5 still had to go through their full load times. So, recalling an application from the background.

iPhone-6-vs-Note-5
The iPhone 6 and iOS operating system clearly do an amazing job of holding previously opened apps in memory and was fairly able to load and display the app instantly. While the Note 5 n the other hand was seriously lacking in this performance and actually required the selected app to go through the full boot process again. What we have to note here is that the iPhone 6 is claerly a true multitasking master. Admit it!
Check out the video for yourself and share what you think. Would the outcome of the speed test sway your decision to purchase Galaxy Note 5 over an Apple device? It’s up to you.

WileyFox Storm smartphone could be the UK’s answer to OnePlus

The little-known WileyFox – who previously produced Kazam budget smartphones – are looking to muscle in on the current crop of good spec budget handsets with two models – the Storm and Swift, both of which run Cyanogen 12.1 OS.
The Storm is a 5.5-inch smartphone with a Full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS display.

It runs on a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage.

It’s most appealing feature is probably its 20MP Sony camera, as well as its 8MP front-facer.

The Storm supports 4G LTE connectivity, is dual SIM, has microSD expansion and measures 9.2mm thick.

When it’s released it’ll launch at £199 (US$310).

Slightly lower down the specs pile is the cheaper Swift smartphone, which runs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage.

It has a 5-inch 1280 x 720-pixel display and carries a 13MP rear cam and 5MP selfie shooter.

This will be out at £129 ($200).

Wonder where all the retro VHS camcorder videos and pics are coming from?

Anyone who uses social media will have noticed a glut of new videos with the grain and fuzz of an ’80s/’90s VHS camcorder video.
You can join in the retro party with the app that everyone’s using: VHS Camcorder from Rarevisions.
The app has all the features the old camcorders had, including clunky zoom, the date in the corner and a whole host of skins that let you choose exactly the type of grain you want.
The app is currently only on iOS but an Android version is in the works.

Insignia Flex Elite 7.85: Wrong FCC ID!

Insignia Flex Elite 7.85: Wrong FCC ID!

Dan EE originally said the tablet IDed itself as the Nexus 9. I finally got curious about that and emailed him, because I didn’t see it in the About Tablet information.
It turns out I should have dug deeper. It’s in this screen:
screenshot_2015-07-23-17-31-20b
FCCNexus9Google
Since it’s passed through the FCC — miraculously, given the wires — I’m not sure this matters except as an example of the sloppiness one can encounter in a Chinese tech product.
Dan EE also noted:
I kept the tablet. I am waiting to see if there will be an update to it that may include a new bootloader. They have to fix NetFlix and claim they are working on an update. The bootloader they have is obviously a secure bootloader. The RK3288 is designed so the bootloader can’t be read. If an upgrade comes out with a new bootloader, it can be extracted. This way I can put it back to stock if I want or need to. More importantly if the unlocked bootloader that I would need to put in a ROM bricks it, I can recover it. I am convinced that the most likely way to get a ROM onto this will require disassembly and some fine solder work.
Damn, with good firmware this thing could be a great tablet for the money. The AnTuTu video test V3.0 score was 765, off the charts! The chip has a lot of power saving modes, even running off the realtime 32.768KHz clock. I am sure are not being used. The main market for this is set top boxes and tv’s where they don’t worry about standby power.
I’m still skeptical there will be any update that will include a Netflix fix, despite Insignia’s claims.
I know owners of the iFive Mini 4 had a hell of a time trying to get it rooted. None of that applies here, however, because they’re still stuck with Android 4.x and such a root probably won’t work with Android 5.x.
Plus, Five Technology seems to have abandoned that tablet already — if the company is still in business at all [Google Translate]:
iFiveMini4AbandonedPost
Click = big
Five has dropped any pretense that Android 5.x will come to the Mini 4 “soon.” The iFive Air got it, and that’s all.
I bring up the iFive Mini 4 because of the weird reference AnTuTu found to Five Technology.
InsigniaFlexEliteRootAnTuTu
InsigniaFlexEliteRootAnTuTu2
Did Lightcomm — Insignia’s tablet supplier — grab the iFive Air Android 5.x and just modify it? I wonder.
Meanwhile, it looks like no one else at XDA Developers is interested.
Very frustrating all the way round.

Elephone Q Phone Review

So if you have a name for it, feel free to let us know and we’ll pass it along to Elephone. I’d call it the Elephone Mini or something. It’s going to be available later this year for about $80 USD. Which is a pretty fantastic price for a smartphone like this. While you can’t do Periscope or use Twitter on it, you can still have quite a bit of fun. It’ll be a great choice for someone’s first smartphone as well. At $80, it’s okay if someone loses this, compared to losing something like the Galaxy Note 5, right?
While we were at Elephone’s office today, we also got a chance to check out the Elephone Vowney as well as the Elephone S2. Both are really nice looking devices. You can look forward to hands on with those two later on today. Elephone is making some really nice handsets, as are most of the other OEM’s here in China, and really can’t wait to see them go international.

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 (“Plus/Pro” Model) Gets Third Review

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 (“Plus/Pro” Model) Gets Third Review

Antutu pulled down a score of 45013, just a little lower than the ZenFone 2. Understandable considering the higher resolution of the screen. The 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme benchmark managed a score of 7522, which is okay. It’s higher than you’d see in budget devices powered by the Snapdragon 615 or 410, but still not as good as the GPU in a flagship device. Note, I’m using the 4GB version of the tablet with the faster Intel chip.
Italics emphasis in original.
I expected an AnTuTu score in that range. At US$299, that’s a good score.
I’ve yet to encounter this version of the tablet in person, though, and look forward to finding a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 to compare with.
Meanwhile, after the break, some videos demonstrating the optional stylus.
